"`A lot of people in Britain aren't able to recognize an intelligent idea when it is put (put) in front of them, especially when it comes (come) from the
United States.
I am talking (talk), of course, about the new plastic people, or perhaps they
are made (make) of rubber, who are bought (buy) by Americans so that they don't have to travel alone in their cars. The reason: More and more Americans
were attacked or robbed (attack/rob) over the past few years while they
are travelling on their own.
Now it's not just on lonely journeys that you can be attacked (attack) by all kinds of strange people. If I took
Plastic Peter to a party, for example, and pretended (pretend) to talk
to him in a corner, not so many boring people would attack (attack) me. And if
you took (take) him to the beach, he would look after (look after) you clothes,
money and watch while you are swimming in the sea. On the other hand, a lot
has been written (write) about ,man-made people' over the past centuries, and these stories have never came (never come) to to a good end. Just think of
Frankenstein's monster!
One never knows: One day my role might be played (play) by Plastic Peter
and people might look at (look at) me as his plastic friend. - I think
I'll continue ,travelling' on my own."'
